Allow access to an existing system service port

You can open an existing port to allow remote network access to a system service on your PC, like a mail server, secure web server, or universal Plug and Play.

You might need to open a system service port if a program needs it and it is blocked by Personal Firewall. Keep in mind, however, that this can make your PC vulnerable to Internet security threats, so only open a port if necessary.
1 Open the Firewall settings page.
2 Click Ports and System Services.
3 From the list of system services, select a system service to modify and click its checkbox.
4 Click Edit.
5 Under Open the port to a computer or network on a:, do one of the following:
To... Do this...
To open the port to any computer on a Home, Work, or Public network (for example, a home network, a corporate network, or an Internet network) Select Home, Work, or Public.
To open the port to any computer on only a Home or Work network (for example, a home network or a corporate network) Select Home or Work.
6 Click Save.
