Management of PC connections

The connections that you create between other PCs and your own are called PC connections.

You manage PC connections by creating rules based on Internet Protocol (IP) addresses associated with specific remote PCs. PCs that are associated with Home IP addresses are allowed to connect to your PC. Those with IP addresses that are unknown, suspicious, or distrusted are blocked from connecting to your PC.

Make sure that any PC you establish a connection with is safe. If you connect to a PC that's infected with a worm or a similar threat, your PC is vulnerable to infection from that PC. Also, McAfee recommends that any PC you connect to should also be protected by a firewall and an up-to-date anti-virus program. Personal Firewall does not log traffic or generate event alerts from home IP addresses in the My Network Connections list.

Since Personal Firewall blocks all unwanted traffic, normally it is not necessary to block an IP address. You should block an IP address only when you are sure it is threatening your security. Make sure that you do not block important IP addresses, such as those of your Internet service provider servers.
