Understanding your protection features

"Protection features" are the McAfee programs, like Personal Firewall or Anti-Spam, that protect your PC and files.

When you install your McAfee protection, you can install some or all of the protection features that come with your software. If you install only some features and decide later that you want to install the remaining features, you do so from the Features page. You open the Features page by clicking the name of a feature that has an Available status beside it.

The drawers and features that are available to you depend on the McAfee suite you purchase.

Virus and Spyware protection:

•	Scan Your PC — Lets you run a quick, full, or custom scan to eliminate viruses, spyware, and other threats on your PC.

•	Real-Time Scanning — Scans your files, programs, email, and IMs for threats each time you or your PC uses them.

•	Scheduled Scanning — Sets up periodic full scans of your PC.

Web and Email protection:

•	Personal Firewall — Protects your PC against hackers who can hijack your PC or steal your personal information.

•	Anti-Spam — Stops junk mail and phishing attacks from invading your inbox.

•	McAfee SiteAdvisor software — Provides site safety ratings and reports so you know which sites are safe and which aren't — before you visit them.

•	McAfee SiteAdvisor LIVE software — All the features of SiteAdvisor software, and it also blocks dangerous sites, and lets you share links on social networks safely.

Data Protection and Backup:

If you have McAfee AntiVirus Plus, the protection drawer appears as Data Protection.

•	File Lock — Lets you lock important files in secure digital vaults on your PC — away from prying eyes.

•	McAfee Online Backup — Lets you save your most important files online so that you can get to them from anywhere at any time.

•	McAfee^® Shredder™ tool — Helps you permanently erase sensitive information from your PC.

PC and Home Network Tools:

•	My Home Network — Gives you a bird's-eye view of PCs and devices on your network and lets you fix security issues on PCs running McAfee.

•	Home Network Defense — All the features of My Home Network, and it also lets you monitor for intruders.

•	McAfee^® QuickClean™ tool — Helps improve your PC's performance by letting you erase unnecessary files.

Parental Controls:

•	Parental Controls — Lets you take control of what your family can see and do on the web.
