Moving and backing up vaults

You can move or back up a vault to transfer and protect your most important files.

When you create a vault, the associated file extension is .vault. To move a vault, you need to move the associated .vault file. The .vault file is stored in your Windows user profile. For example, you can find the .vault file here in Windows Vista: C:\users\<username>\AppData\local\McAfee Anti Theft. For help finding your Windows user profile, see Windows Help and Support.

You can move a vault to a USB device or to a shared folder on a network.

When you back up your vault, make sure you also save the .vault file by:
Backing up your entire PC.
Adding your Windows user folder to your backup.
Creating your vaults in the My Documents folder. Your .vault files are backed up when you back up your My Documents folder. To learn how to specify a location on your PC to create a vault, read Create a vault.

To access a vault backup or a vault that you created on another PC, you need to use the Access External Vault feature.
