Anti-Spam checks your incoming email messages to determine if they are legitimate. Email that Anti-Spam recognizes as unsolicited is labeled and moved to a separate Anti-Spamfolder. By screening your mail for junk mail and phishing messages, Anti-Spam protects your Inbox from these attacks.

This protection feature might not be turned on, installed, or included in your McAfee software. To learn about the protection features included in your McAfee suite, read Understanding your protection features.

•	How Anti-Spam works Spam messages are unsolicited email messages sent in bulk, usually to sell something. Phishing messages try to get your personal information by masquerading as legitimate messages from a trusted source. They send you to fraudulent websites, where you fill out information that can be used for identify theft or actual theft.
•	Setting up spam protection Anti-Spam lets you customize how it detects spam. You can adjust how aggressively to filter messages, specify what to look for in a message, and select character sets that you want to block. You can create custom filters to fine-tune which messages Anti-Spam identifies as spam. For example, if unsolicited email that contains the word "mortgage" is not filtered, you can add a filter that contains that word.
•	Managing filtered email If you are using a webmail account, you can view your filtered email messages. This is useful when you want to see if any legitimate messages were filtered, or if you want to know when a message was filtered. You can also delete filtered messages or export them to a safe folder on your computer so you can open them.
•	Managing your Friends List You can add friends to your Friends List automatically or manually, to make sure that their email messages are not filtered. Do this only when you know you can trust messages from these email addresses.
•	Setting up phishing protection Phishing protection prevents you from accessing fraudulent websites that try to obtain your personal information. If you click a link in an email message to a known or potentially fraudulent website, Anti-Spam redirects you to a safe page with information about the website and why it is considered potentially unsafe.
•	Turning off spam protection If you are experiencing issues with your email program, you might need to disable spam protection or the Anti-Spam toolbar as part of your troubleshooting strategy.
